In January 2009, BBC Four presented a season of programmes telling the story of and background to American Folk Music. As part of the season they commissioned two concerts at the Barbican. The first called Hollerers, Stompers and Old-Time Ramblers featuring early southern folk, and the second called Greenwich Village Revisited featuring the 60s New York scene.

I designed the stage settings for both of these concerts and created backgrounds to put the performers in context. The first set created the look of a southern 20s/30s shack with its back porch and ramshackle environment. The second re-created the basic brick walled club atmosphere of the Bitter End Venue in New York. I was pleased to have captured the right atmosphere with quite modest budgets. In both cases the performers said they felt really at home. In fact the Greenwich Village performers all took home signed copies of the 60's style poster.
