Horrible histories is a comedy sketch show based on the books of the same name by Terry Deary. Now in its third year, the show was originally targetted at the CBBC audience, but has developed a cult grown up following.

The books cover just about every period in history, so the script writers wrote sketches for all of them. What a lot of sets. Even more than there are images here. This was a real challenge. I cant think of another programme (mine or anyone else's) which has needed such a variety of periods in one show.

The shooting for each series was about half and half location and studio. I kept the studio costs down by carefully re-using, re-configuring, re-painting, and re-dressing a few key studio areas. If you look really carefully you might just see the re-use, but you will have to look very hard.
